Trim Playlist Account Connector

Last updated: October 11, 2026

Purpose

The extension connects a user-selected platform account to the user's local Trim Playlist application. The application runs on the user's computer; hosting this policy on GitHub Pages does not move the application or its account sessions online.

Information handled

After you start a connection, the extension reads the selected platform's cookies from the browser cookie store used by its sign-in tab. Cookies include authentication credentials and may contain account identifiers, preferences, and other platform-provided values. Cookie metadata includes domain, path, security flags, and expiry. Supported platforms are YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, TikTok, and Twitch.

The extension checks authentication cookie names and, for YouTube, a boolean logged-in flag. It temporarily handles the selected platform, connection-tab URLs and IDs, the local server address, a pairing token, and an expiry time to manage the connection. It does not collect browsing history, messages, payment details, or passwords entered on the sign-in page. It does not track users for analytics or advertising.

How information is used and transferred

Selected-platform cookies are transferred only to the local Trim Playlist server at localhost or 127.0.0.1 using a short-lived, single-use pairing token. They are used by the local application to make authenticated requests to the selected platform for content the account may access. Authentication does not guarantee that a platform permits or supports a particular download.

The connector does not send session cookies to the developer, GitHub, an advertising service, or another external server. The platforms themselves receive requests made during sign-in and authenticated use and handle them under their own privacy policies.

Storage and retention

Pending connection state is kept in chrome.storage.session so it can survive extension service-worker restarts. Pending connections expire after ten minutes; state is removed when a connection completes, is cancelled, or is processed as expired. Browser session storage is cleared when the browser session ends.

The local application saves imported cookies as a Netscape-format text file in its cookies folder. Those files are not encrypted by the application and remain until you disconnect the account or delete the file. Access is governed by your computer's filesystem permissions. Treat these files as account credentials and do not publish or share them.

Your choices and deletion

You choose the platform and initiate each connection. Closing a connection tab cancels the pending connection. Use Disconnect in Trim Playlist to remove that platform's connected cookie file, or delete it directly from the local cookies folder. Disconnect does not delete separately imported cookie files and does not sign you out of the platform in your browser. You can remove the extension at any time; removing the extension alone does not remove files already saved by the local application.

Data-use commitments

Data is not sold, used for advertising, used to determine creditworthiness, or used for lending. Data is handled only to provide the account-connection function described here. The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
